Reheat tortillas
HOW TO WARM UP TORTILLAS?
Tortillas are typical of Mexico. These thin and flexible pancakes are made from corn, sometimes wheat. They are consumed in large quantities to prepare dishes such as fajitas, tacos, burritos… With beef, chicken, cheese, baked or rolled with a garnish, tortillas can make simple, economical and very appetizing dishes.
To fold and roll them easily, they must remain lukewarm so as not to break. So how do you warm up your tortillas to make them the best they can be?
REHEAT YOUR TORTILLAS IN THE OVEN
To do this, just lightly moisten them one by one, and superimpose them in aluminum foil. Preheat your oven to 190° and bake for about 15 minutes. They will be more malleable and easy to taste.
WARM UP YOUR TORTILLAS A LA POELE
As with the oven method, moisten your tortillas a little to make them soft and fluffy. But if you prefer them to be rather crispy and slightly fried, coat them with a little butter or oil. Heat your pan well without fat. Let your tortilla heat up. a few seconds. Repeat for each tortilla.
You can also, if you have a suitable plate, heat them directly on the stove or use an electric plancha.
REHEAT YOUR TORTILLAS IN THE MICROWAVE
Wrap your tortillas in a clean, slightly damp cloth. Heat them in the microwave for 30 seconds. Repeat the operation if they are not hot enough for your taste. If you leave them too long they can become dry and difficult to handle for your dishes.
REHEAT YOUR TORTILLAS WITH A STEAMER
As with the microwave method, wrap your tortillas in a cloth or towel. Fill your tank with water and snap the steamer with the tortillas on the top basket.
After one or two minutes, check if they are warm enough for you and put a little longer if necessary.
TASTE AND PRESERVE THE TORTILLAS
To keep your tortillas perfectly supple once served, it is better to fold them as soon as they are hot and keep them warm while waiting to eat.
The trick to keeping them warm: wrap your tortillas in a thick cloth like a towel, and wrap it in aluminum foil. So your tortillas will remain soft for about twenty minutes.
Tortillas can also be frozen without problems. A good tip for those days when the desire for a sunny kitchen is felt. All you have to do is warm them up before filling them to your liking.
Your tortillas are ready to be enjoyed. Delicious when paired with meat, cheese, hot salsa or a melting guacamole… Everything is possible according to your tastes and desires. And if you have a little bit left, cut them into triangles, add cheese, spices, sauce and oven for real nachos. Perfect for the aperitif!
