WHAT IS NEEDED TO ORGANIZE A MEXICAN DINNER AT HOME?
During this second wave of epidemics, your favorite Mexican restaurant had to, like all the others, close its doors, waiting to welcome you better and treat you again.
Confinement doesn’t just mean pizza, pasta or gratins every night. You can continue to taste typical dishes as we serve them in our restaurant. With a little organization and a few tricks, organizing a Mexican dinner at home is quite feasible. It is ideal for a spicy evening with the family to break the routine and have fun.
Before moving on to menu ideas, we wanted to give you a brief overview of the origins of Mexican cuisine. In addition to delighting them, you will also impress your family.
ORIGINS OF MEXICAN CUISINE
Mexican cuisine is a mixture of European (Spanish) and pre-Hispanic (indigenous) traditions. She has also been influenced by African, Caribbean, Asian, and Middle Eastern cuisines. It is therefore extremely varied and mixed. The traditional base of this cuisine is corn, but other foods are very often used in Mexican cuisine: avocado, beans, tomato, vanilla, chilli…
APERITIF IDEA
To put you in the mouth, nothing like a spicy aperitif. Staying on the classic and delicious guacamole with tortilla chips, you are sure to fall just right. It is a cold mashed onion and avocado to decorate and season.
Mexico is famous for its exotic fruits, so you can offer your family a variety of homemade exotic fruit juices for a fresh aperitif.
For adults, why not show your bartending skills by making a Sangrita that is a delicious cocktail enhanced by a mixture of chili and hot sauce with bigarade (Seville orange), lime and pomegranate. This cocktail goes perfectly with tequila shots.
MAIN COURSE IDEA
There are many Mexican dishes, but for a friendly dinner you can opt for the traditional and much-loved Fajitas. Simply cook all the ingredients and place them on the table. If you have a pierrade for everyone to grill their vegetables, it is even more friendly. Everyone garnishes their cake with corn thanks to the different ingredients: spicy meat, vegetables, cheeses… For meat, you can use both beef and chicken breasts.
DESSERT IDEA
After an aperitif and a hearty dish, plan fresh fruit such as pineapple for example which is the ideal fruit to taste after well-spiced dishes. For a more gourmet dessert, you can introduce your family to the Torta de cielo. This is a traditional Yucatan almond cake that will reveal all these aromas accompanied by a good coffee (preferably Mexican!).
AMBIANCE
Whether for your room or your table, choose decoration with warm and summer colors: yellow, red, orange, green. You can also arrange a few items that remind you of Mexico such as peppers, sombreros, mini cacti…
Do not forget to compose a playlist with mariachi music to create an atmosphere related to the theme of your evening.
